Steam Sauna Bath: Safe or Unsafe?
There are a lot of great things about dipping in a steam sauna bath, but the most common attribute is the
ability to de-stress and relax. On the other hand, you’ve probably heard about some of the safety concerns that
doctors and other health care professionals have about using saunas. So you have to do some research first to
decide if a steam sauna bath is what you need.
Know the Facts
Folks stressed out by work or family issues often find that a steam sauna bath works wonders to help them relax
and just let the outside world melt away. Ignoring your stress never works; in fact, if you ignore stress, you can
end up with heart problems, insomnia, and digestive issues. It may even prove fatal. It is for these reasons that
many have turned to a steam sauna bath.
So should you use a steam sauna bath to relax and refresh your body and mind? Sure, as long as you know the
risks (more on that later). Steam sauna baths help folks with kidney problems because it helps detoxify your body
through perspiration caused by the high temperatures you experience in the bath. And that’s just one additional
plus beyond the relaxation factor!
On the other hand, a steam sauna bath is not considered safe for women that are pregnant. The intense heat that
you will experience in a steam sauna bath will be too much for an expectant mother. The first trimester is
especially risky because the baby’s little brain and spinal cord can be damaged. There is also a risk of birth
defects from such intense heat.
So if you are pregnant, needless to say, talk to your doctor first before using a steam sauna bath. If you are a
man trying to have a child with your wife you should also consult your physician first, as steam sauna baths have
been shown to lower men’s sperm count. This, of course, will probably make it harder for you and your wife to have
children.
You should also take the time to go online or visit a dealer to educate yourself about the difference between a
sauna and a steam room. A lot of folks get the two confused, so make sure you know what you are talking about and
considering before going any further.
At the end of the day, a steam sauna bath is not the best idea for someone that is pregnant or trying to have
children or someone that isn’t in good health or having circulation (i.e., heart) problems unless advised by their
doctor. If you don’t suffer from the listed health conditions, then you can expect to experience a plethora of
great health benefits from using a steam sauna bath.
